my experience is credit unions are more conservative as they have to report to their members rather than the stockholders (or US Tax payers in recent history). You will probably want to get a co-signer. My parents got me a car when I graduated college. They had ME co-sign for them to help me establish credit.

When I purchased my first vehicle my father had to cosign my loan at a credit union because I had no credit history.

Credit union rules are usually less strict than a bank’s.
