Does anyone know of a TRUE bad-credit car loan lender, NOT one of those dealer referral scams?

I’m looking for a real lender of cash to buy a car from a private seller, not a dealer. I’m prepared to face high interest, large amount down, etc. – but all the websites I’ve tried are just new car dealer referral services disguised as "helpful" loan finders.

There are plenty sub-prime lenders out there. You really need to know just how bad your credit really is. However, most of these lenders work only with dealers, not individuals.

Here are a few:

Capital One
Americredit
National Auto Finance (Nuvell)

For really bad credit try:

Drive Financial
Crescent Bank
Consumer Portfolio Serv.
Credit Acceptance Corp.

You can always try a buy-here/pay-here dealer as well.
