BLAH =\, For car insurance the quick way to get a low quote is do a car policy comparison. Be sure to choose the same coverage amounts, you can get an quick quote to compare against others. Use the same coverage area, auto make and model, mileage and driving history to ensure you get an apples to apples comparison. To get fast auto quotes, go to http://www.autoadviceonline.com/Auto-Insurance-Quote.html and you can compare all the major auto insurance companies.

go to progressive…thats where i got mine and it is a lot cheaper than anywhere else i looked….it really depends on what kind of car you drive and all that but just do a little research and get some quotes…look at progressive, state farm, gieco, and allstate.
all of their websites will give you free quotes then just go with the one you like best

MY daughter is 16, got her license Sept 10th.
We have State Farm, they have a program ONLY for girls that they can complete, plus show a 3.0 gpa.
My daughter did this and she costs us $22 to add her to our cars. If she were to get her own car and her own policy, she would have to pay $100 a month. It`s called the "Steer Clear" program.. California’s equivalent is called Inexperienced Driver Safety Education Discount
http://www.statefarm.com/insurance/auto_insurance/ca.aspWe are in Oregon (just north of you)
I had state farm since I was 16 (40 now) and after a company wide rate hike, I tried to find cheaper ins. NO LUCK! the other insurance companies told me just to stay where I was.
It may start out in price with the others but the bill goes down as you drive, over a couple of years. down to a 40% discount. GO IN to see an agent!

Only one correction. The discounts with State Farm, like good student and steer clear are for boys and girls, Not just girls.
However, they will not take you on your own. They will take you if you bring your parents car with you. That is because you have not had your license for 3 years so you do not qualify for California Good Driver Discount. As a matter of fact most companies will not take you because you do not have your license for 3 years. There are a couple of exceptions. They are not the best companies around. But you can try then for now and then change later after you have been licensed for 3 years.
Another suggestion is to get insurance where your parents have theirs. It will be much easier for you if you take this option.
Another suggestion is to go on the assigned risk program. If is for those who either have bad driving records or are newly licensed because it is for higher risk drivers. But that will only provide liability only. So, if you have an old car, I hope you do, then this plan is not a bad option. It is not that expensive. See the website below for this option. It is not a solitication website. It is a program run through the government. Call the phone number and they can refer you to an agent that is contracted with the program.

Typically in this situation your parents would simply add you to their policy, and as the good daughter I know that you are, you would pay the amount of increase to their policy.
If, for some reason, that is not an option, then look in your Yellow Pages for an "Independent Agent". They do not work for one single company, but for many. They can take your particular situation and match you up with the company who will give you the best coverage for the lowest price. At 18 it won’t be cheap, but it will be a lot less than if you were a boy. Don’t be persuaded by T.V. commercials with catchy gimmicks. You pay for that advertising.
