How do people in Florida cope with high car insurance rates?

by admin on February 18, 2010 · 8 comments

Let’s say for a young single person who has been driving for 5 years with a 2 year old car.
How can someone afford insurance with a tight budget?

Beats me. I know what you mean though. At $275 a month for bare minimum, it’s crazy. It’s a shame, I pay more for car insurance than I do for a car payment! I guess the best thing to do would be move out of Florida. Everything in Florida has gotten so expensive that it is impossible to survive. And there’s no reward in living in the state either. All there is in Florida is heat and hurricanes. What I don’t get is that the elderly get such great discounts and all the insurance companies do is screw young people over. I have never had an accident, speeding ticket or anything. But yet someone who is 65 will pay pennies for insurance, and kill a whole family because they were doped up on 20 different meds and should have never been driving in the first place.

I think rates are higher due to all the elderly people running into things.

Shop around. Look online for various quotes. If you have a clean driving record that helps a lot. Because your car is newer you have to get collison and comprehensive which is why the rate seems so high. If you’re in school get a good student driver discount.

I agree with "It’s a beautiful day" about the elderly drivers are a reason that you will pay so much, but other reasons Florida’s insurance is so high is because of the salt spray coming off the ocean damages your cars body, by corrosion, as well the hurricane’s causing so much damage to autos. If you have had no accidents, tickets, or anything, shop around you may get a cheaper rate then you think, But keep in mind the factors of why you pay more. I rather pay more for insurance now then have a hurricane take my car away and have to pay out of pocket for a new one.
Another thing you could do is that if you have someone up here like your parents or someone in a cheaper state, you could keep your car registered at their address for the time being, or until you get in a better financial position.
