How to car damage claim in accident in UK with other driver’s fault but my insurance policy just lapsed?

I was involved in a car accident with other driver’s fault completely which he accepted and same thing has come in Police report. After accident I found my Car insurance policy ran out for period of one month. Later on I realized and renewed my policy but definitely not covering at the time of accident. I have paid FCN and penaty points. Now my car is under recovery. Will my insurance co. will help me to claim the losses? If no How can I claim losses. Btw both driver’s insurance co. are same.
