I need to get an auto loan and I have bad credit. Where can i get one?

Yes, I am taking steps to rebuild my credit but it takes awhile, I’m finding. I’ve found I can get auto loans, but they refer you to a dealership where you pick out a car. I’ve found a car that I really like, but it’s from a third party. I’ve also tried RoadLoans and was declined. Anyone know of a lender that will give me a loan where I don’t have to buy from a dealer? Thanks!

You CAN get a decent car loan, even with bad credit. I’ve done it, but you’ll have to look around. That’s one of the BIG mistakes people make…just taking the first offer that’s given to them when they go to the dealer. Be smarter than that.

WARNING: DON’T GO TO BUY A CAR WITHOUT HAVING THE LOAN FIRST. The auto dealers will eat you alive and give you a crappy rate. Shop around with lenders who specialize in bad credit car loans. It’s a better option, you don’t have to take what they’re offering if you don’t want it, and it’s better than dealing with the car dealer’s people.

I think your best bet right now is t go to the dealer and suck it up. It will take a while to fix your credit. However if you can you might be able to get a cosigner and that might lessen the interest rates and all so that you can get one from a dealer. Also if you are part of a credit union… good move here… then they can help you out with cash and loans. You might have to wait or get some collateral to put up. You can ask for a private loan or take a cash advance from your credit card but like I said the interest rates will be ridiculous there too. Good luck.

I just read an article about a user based website where people offer their own money to borrowers. I think it’s a really neat idea. It might be exactly what you need! It’s called "Prosper".

Try E-Loan or 1-800-Auto-Yes. They both have bad credit auto loans.

You can probably get a car loan with suspect credit but you might have to pay a much higher interest rate and you might have to go the used car route You should be able to go to a bank or ask the seller if he is willing to finance.
