Try dealing with the company before you dispute with the bureaus as it's always possible if you dispute inq's you may find them slap a fraud alert on your reports. So, save doing disputes with the bureaus until after you talk to the loan company. It doesn't take years for an inquiry to have no effect. They start losing their effectiveness around 6 months and have no bearing on your scores at 1 year. I know that is not much solice for what the company did. But, car dealers, loan companies and mortgagers etc all seem to love to pull multiple inq's. Request that they remove all but one.
