He/she is basically stuck until the age of 25, then the rates will go down somewhat...assuming that he/she can stay out of trouble until then, (which I doubt). For starters, if you have 5 wrecks at 16, that means you don't know how to drive. I suggest going to a driving school to fix the bad habits that caused the accidents. (And I'm not gonna buy that none of them were his/her fault either). It's possible that the insurance company might look favorably on a certificate of completion of a driving course. I'd look into that. There are insurance companies that will insure problem drivers like this, but the coverage comes at a higher price...because they are taking a big gamble that your friend won't just go out and get into another wreck, meaning another claim against the policy. Just be thankful that they can get ANY insurance with that kind of record. In the state where I live, depending on the nature of the offense, an under-18 driver can even lose their driver's license and not have a shot at getting it back until they turn 21. In the meantime, you can increase the amounts on your collision & comprehensive deductibles (not wise- you save on premiums but pay more $ if there's a wreck), or just go with minimal coverage to save on money, but then again, you won't be covered as well the event of another crash.
