Question about insurance coverage?

by admin on April 10, 2012 · 4 comments

Hi,

Today I requested from insurance company a quote with min. coverage limits as possible to get the cheapest rate.

They sent me this info: AUTOMOBILE LIABILITY 15/30/5 $###
MEDICAL PAYMENTS COVERAGE 00 $###

My question is if Automobile Liability as they pointed includes underinsured or uninsured motorist
types of coverage? Because I’m confused with this general naming…Automobile Liability..

Thanks

If that’s all it said, then I don’t see any coverage for uninsured motorist. What you see there is bodily injury per person $15000, bodily injury per accident $30000, property damage liability $5000. Property damage liability at that amount is WAY, WAY too low. Most new cars cost three times that amount, and if you total someones brand new or even moderately new vehicle, you’re going to be royally screwed. Get that up to at least $50000.

No, liability does not include uninsured or underinsured motorist.

Kramer and ken are wrong on what property damage is, mushu is right. I got a kick out of, "you know nothing about insurance" from a guy with the wrong answer.

Liability is to cover damages that you cause to another. So that will never include uninsured motorist because it is a completely different kind of coverage. Uninsured and underinsured motorist are coverages to protect you if someone hits you without insurance. (in most cases you still must have the other persons info to collect from coverage.

So those liability coverages: 15/30/5, yes way too low. These coverages will cover damages that you cause to another. This is $15,000 per person in an accident, with a maximum of a total coverage of $30,000 for all injuries you cause in an accident. With your quote example, you would have $5,000 coverage for damages you cause to a car. That is rediculously low.

What you really need to know:
More coverage does cost more money. I know you asked for the cheapest, but play around with coverages on an online car quote search. When I was an agent, I would highly recommend coverages around 50/100/50 and I carry 100/300/100 for myself. At the very least, going up to 15/30/15 won’t cost much more. The quote mentioned medical payments which is medical coverage for you and other people in your car, but that is not a requirement. Lastly, want to make sure you know that comprehensive and collision are the coverages to protect your own car, which you did not mention in this quote.

you need an agent because you know nothing about insurance/50 grand car and you total it your on the hook for the overages from the 15 grand

that is stiff for insurance/most new cars areway over 20 grand and if you hit and total one you will hve to pay the bsalance after 15 k
