For me it involves having an agent that I can talk to, who will give me good advice, and help me figure out answers to questions that I have. This is easier to tell, as you can actually talk with local agents. Also ask your friends for a recommendation.
It also involves having good service if you need them. That is a little more difficult to tell ahead of time. Have to ask friends, look in consumer ratings, see if any complaints lodged with you state dept of insurance.

You won’t really know unless you have a wreck! Then you’ll find out how good they are when you see how quickly they resolve your claim.

I would suggest a nationally known company that operates locally in your state. Having an agent you can meet and shake hands with allows you to feel there is someone who cares when you have a claim. I’ve been with State Farm for years. I get advertisements from other companies all the time, but I’m not likely to change.
